It is that time of the year when everyone is talking of George RR Martin’s epic Game of Thrones series, thanks to a new season on television – the series is actually known as a Song of Fire and Ice Ice and Fire in print, but TV WILL have its way in these matter. Brilliantly narrated, packed with intrigue, bravery and betrayal (you never know who will die next), the series is littered with brilliant quotes that make you smile, ponder and sometimes, just thrill your senses. Yes, we know neither the TV not the print series is over yet, but as of now, here are our ten favourite quotes from The Game of Thrones:

1. ” If we die, we die. All men must die…but first, we will live.”

2. “There is only one god and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: ‘Not today’.”

3. “‘Can a man still be brave if he’s afraid?’
‘That is the only time a man can be brave,’”

4. “Never forget who you are, for surely the world won’t. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.”

5. “Sleep is good. And books are better.”

6. “When you tear out a man’s tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you’re only telling the world that you fear what he might say.”

7. “Defeat is a disease. And Victory is the cure.”

8. “A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies…the man who never reads lives only one.”

9. “A true man does what he will, not what he must.”

10. “What is honor compared to a woman’s love? What is duty against the feel of a newborn son in your arms . . . or the memory of a brother’s smile? Wind and words. Wind and words. We are only human, and the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory, and our great tragedy.”
