When it comes to classic cricket books, Wisden Cricketer’s compilation titled “Flying Stumps and Metal Bats” would come near the top of most cricket followers’ lists. A collection of some of the most memorable incidents in the history of the game, reported from the perspectives of its participants and observers, the title is considered one of the best compilations of cricket writing available any where. Mind you, finding it is a bit of problem – it was published in 2010, and not too many copies made it to Indian shores. Those which did make it to the stores came with a stiff-ish price tag of Rs 779.
Now imagine getting that book for – dramatic pause – Rs. 157.
Yes, that’s what you have to pay to get first hand accounts of some of the most dramatic incidents in the sport – from Dennis Lillee coming out to bat with an aluminum bat to Dean Jones literally draining himself to score a double century to the incident on the cover itself, Michael Holding kicking the stumps over in frustration during an ill-tempered tour of New Zealand. It is brilliant reading, and if you have a Kindle device or a Kindle app on your iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone, Android or BlackBerry, you can get and read the book on it. And this is the full book, with no compromises.
A cricket classic for less than the price of some “lifestyle” magazines out there. Go right ahead and grab it from here.
